What Can We do?

Feeding therapy is more than just expanding your child's palate. It's about addressing sensory sensitivities, oral motor skills, and developing a healthy relationship with food. Our Speech-language pathologists, or SLPs, play a crucial role in helping children with feeding and swallowing problems. Here's how they can make a positive impact:

🌈 Sensory Sensitivities: Some children experience heightened sensory sensitivities to food textures, flavors, or smells. Our experienced team can create tailored strategies to make mealtimes more comfortable.

🌈 Oral Motor Function: SLPs are skilled at assessing and diagnosing the underlying causes of food disorders. SLPs assess and evaluate oral motor functions, which include the movements and coordination of the lips, tongue, jaw, and the soft palate. They look for any issues that may affect speech production, swallowing, or eating.

🌈 Feeding and Swallowing: SLPs assist individuals, including those with swallowing difficulties (dysphagia), by improving oral motor control for safe and efficient swallowing. They help create strategies to prevent choking or aspiration.

By addressing food disorders, Our SLPs here at Cadence Pediatric Therapy can contribute to improving a child's overall quality of life. We help children develop a healthier relationship with food, ensuring they receive the necessary nutrition for growth and development, while also reducing stress and anxiety related to mealtime.
